Everything you need to know about the NRGkick

From safety protocols to fleet management: below you’ll find all the technical and practical details on how the NRGkick works.

Safety with the NRGkick is built around three separate layers of protection: protection of the electricity grid, protection of the charging process itself, and protection of the user. Before every charging start, the NRGkick automatically performs a full self-check, including a protective conductor check (earthing check) to ensure the socket is safe enough to charge from.

In addition, the NRGkick features Hot Unplug Protection: should you pull the plug while charging, the current is cut within milliseconds, before any danger can arise. Combined with IP67 certification (fully dust- and waterproof) and the built-in RCD protection (30mA AC / 6mA DC), the NRGkick is among the safest mobile charging solutions on the market, suitable for leaving outdoors too.

Via the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP), you link a charge card to your NRGkick, so charging sessions are forwarded directly to your charging network partner’s platform. This enables “split billing”: reimbursement for home charging of company cars then runs automatically via that third party, instead of you as an employer having to manually check and reimburse every charging session.

For fleet managers, this means a significant reduction in administrative burden. The NRGkick works with several charging network operators that are already pre-configured in the app, with new partners regularly being added. A mobile charging cable has one practical downside compared to a fixed wallbox: it can be stolen when left unattended on a public or freely accessible CEE socket. EV-quip offers the NRGkick Wall Socket for this — a lockable wall socket in which you can safely plug in and lock your NRGkick, without having to install an expensive fixed charging station.
